Central parts of the Western Cape experienced the first snowfall of the season on Thursday morning, following a cold front.
Video captured by Craig Geldenhuys shows the mountainside at the Swartberg Pass covered in snow.
The SA Weather Service has issued an alert for damaging winds in parts of the Northern Cape over the weekend.
Gale force north-westerly winds (65 to 75km/h) can be expected in Karoo Hoogland, Pofadder and Garies on Sunday.
Temperatures will remain in the high teens for Cape Town on Saturday and Sunday, while Johannesburg will be partly cloudy, with temperatures in the low 20s.
Durban will be cool, with some cloud cover.
Geldenhuys said he estimated that 5-6cm of snow had collected by 09:30 on Thursday.
