THE prestigious Aquabear Gala is back, and will be held at the Newton Park Swimming complex from October 3 to 6.
Aquabear announced that they will be supporting the Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC), with various fund-raising activities at the gala.
It’s expected that up to 600 swimmers from twenty different clubs, are going to participate in what has traditionally been the biggest club swimming gala in the Eastern Cape.
In keeping with the CHOC slogan of “keeping more than hope alive”, each swimmer will be asked to enter a fictitious swimming race where the entry fees will all go to CHOC.
“We are thrilled that after two years with no suitable venue to host the gala, we are back and currently planning to make this year one to remember,” said Enrico Cudin, president of the club.
Aquabear Swimming Club is the oldest swim club in Port Elizabeth, and is also the largest swim club in the Eastern Cape with two branches in Port Elizabeth, as well as club branches in Grahamstown, Graaff Reinet, Cradock and Somerset East.
Aquabear Swimming Club has produced some of the top swimmers from the Eastern Cape over recent years, with the likes of Calvin and Tamlyn Price.
“We are also happy to be supporting fund-raising for CHOC at the Aquabear gala this year.
“It is a worthy cause and we hope that this not only assists financially, but also helps raise awareness of how many children are currently facing the battle with cancer in our own town,” said Cudin.
