Beat the heat in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth – The Virginian

If you’re looking for a place to escape the heat, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Norfolk are operating public cooling stations.

Chesapeake

All Chesapeake Public Library branches are open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. today and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

No special services are offered.

Portsmouth

Churchland Library, 4934 High St. West; Main Library, 601 Court St.; Manor Library, 1401 Elmhurst Lane – 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. today.

Cradock Library, 28 Prospect Pkwy. – 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. today.

Drinking water is available at each location.

Norfolk

Splash pads at Shoop Park and Norview Community Center are free and open.

All Norfolk Public Library branch locations are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Pretlow location will also be open on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

The city’s Office to End Homelessness launched its summer hydration and heat exposure outreach program last week.

Teams went throughout the city providing cold water and information. More than 300 bottles of water have been distributed, a city news release said.

Teams are heading out again today and Sunday to hand out water.

Hydration stations will also be available at 3232 Brest Ave. and at 3309 Granby St. today from noon to 2 p.m.
