The incredible support for the annual Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer presented by ISUZU MOTORS South Africa, shows that the citizens of the Eastern Cape and Garden Route really care about those affected by cancer, says Algoa FM managing director Alfie Jay.
The event takes place on Saturday, 26 October, starting at 8am on Pollock Beach and from there along the beach front.
“Late entries are still coming in, and all indications are that the Big Walk could reach a record of around 13 500 participants.
“This family event, now in its 26th year, has a special place in the hearts of all of us at Algoa FM and the people of Algoa Country. Everyone has been affected by cancer in one way or another,” he says.
In addition to the traditional Gqeberha beach-front route, the Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer will be hosted in East London and George, and virtually around the country.
Fun activations can be anticipated on all of the five kilometre routes, hosted by sponsors ISUZU MOTORS South Africa, MTN, and Algoa FM.
In East London and Gqeberha there will also be activations by the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture. aQuellé will be at the finish line with free water to help walkers to rehydrate.
Radhiant will be offering free mammogram scans at the start and finish point of all three events.
Participants will also be able to have a free mammogram at the registration points.
Walkers can spend quality family time in a vibey Race Village at the finish on Pollock Beach grass area in Gqeberha.
Organisers have included a variety of 12 food trucks, a supervised kids’ Play Park, and a family-friendly seating area for adults to relax while the kids have fun.
For the safety of the walkers, a rolling road closure will be managed from 1st Avenue to Admiralty Drive in GQ between seven and 11 in the morning.
