AN all-expenses paid trip to Paris awaits the winner of Kingston Maurward’s NFU Agricultural Student of the Year competition.
Carl Hoskin, 18, a second-year student, was picked the overall winner with runners up Matt Cradock, Jenny Diment and James Hibberd receiving trophies from sponsors C and O Tractors.
Carl, studying for his National Diploma in Agriculture said: “I’m thrilled to win the award, I really wasn’t expecting it!”
Nineteen students took part in the contest – completing a series of tasks including a 50-question exam, livestock, machinery an estate skills, followed by an interview with a panel of judges including the NFU’s Rupert Rees and Robert Lasseter.
NFU Group Secretary Dorchester, Rupert Rees, said: “Congratulations to all of the students and the winner of this incredible award. All students conducted themselves very well – we debated for a very long time as the standard was so high. Everyone should be very proud that they have great careers ahead in agriculture.”
Carl’s trophy was specially designed and crafted for the Award by Kingston Maurward College blacksmith Simon Grant-Jones and will be passed on to winners for generations.
