“I don’t think we will ever come to terms with the death of my brother. It never occurred to me that I will be left with my sister after the deaths of our mother and aunt earlier this year.”
Those were the words of a heartbroken Leentjie Hendricks, who lost his brother Johnny Smit after he was hit by a truck on the busy N9 in Middelburg while participating in a service delivery protest.
Smit, 37, was killed alongside fellow activist Thabiso Ngqolo, 20, when a truck ploughed into a group of protesters on 16 October.
