JOHANNESBURG – The tombstone, in Langelihle township in the Karoo, had been put up for Matthew Goniwe, Fort Calata, Sparrow Mkonto and Sicelo Mhlauli.
They were murdered by apartheid security forces in 1985.
“The commission is sympathetic and shares the pain with the Calata family and all families affected,” the CLR said in a statement.
“[We] would like to remind all South Africans that graves are … sacred sites and their meaning is part of expression of the community’s culture, conscience, identity [and] tradition.”
