Bloemfontein – A man arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a pregnant Bloemfontein woman appeared in the city’s magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
The court postponed the matter for trial in the High Court on March 30.
Quewin Coetzee, 30, faces charges of kidnapping, murder and escaping from custody.
The State indicated that a plea and sentencing agreement was being considered.
The body of Celeste Fraser-Carson, 28, was found buried in a shallow grave near the Meadows Road, in the Bloemspruit area, on March 5.
Police said at the time the discovery followed the arrest of a 30-year-old man in Graaff Reinet the day before.
Fraser-Carson disappeared about three weeks before her body was found.
Photographs of the missing mother, who was expecting her second child, were pinned up all over the city, and the case received extensive media coverage. Coetzee remained in custody.
On Tuesday, a group of ANC Women’s League members again protested outside the court.
They displayed placards criticising the abuse and murder of women. A large number of the league’s members were also present inside the courtroom.
