Camdeboo Cottages comprises nine self-catering cottages which are all national monuments, situated in the heart of historical Graaff-Reinet. These cottages form a secluded courtyard with covered carports, a swimming pool and a garden.

Bed and breakfast or self-catering accommodation is provided and a variety of evening meals are also available, with dinners being served in the cottages or on the veranda next to the swimming pool. All cottages offer air-conditioning, electric blankets in winter, en-suite bathrooms, televisions with selected DStv, fully equipped kitchens, and coffee and tea-making facilities.

Your caring hosts since 15 September 2007 are Nico and Hanniki Hattingh. Nico left a thriving packaging business in Johannesburg behind because he fell in love with the Karoo and it was always Hanniki’s dream to have a guest house where she could spoil, pamper and serve people.

The two Luxury Suites are found in the manor house and have separate entrances, private lounges, verandas and summerhouses. There is also a romantic Honeymoon Room and four Deluxe Rooms. These rooms are en-suite and have private entrances leading onto the tranquil garden behind the imposing Edwardian ‘Feather Baron’ mansion.

All rooms boast space, privacy and comfort and have the use of a large pool overlooking the mountains. DStv is available in the guest lounge and country breakfasts are served with farm fresh eggs and milk. Avondrust is within walking distance of all shops, museums and restaurants.

Camdeboo Manor: It is not often that one gets the opportunity to luxuriate in the tranquility of the Karoo countryside, knowing that the town centre of Graaff-Reinet is a brief five-minute drive away.

Camdeboo Manor has been created so that guests can experience calmness and serenity to its fullest. To add to the Old World charm of this establishment, the unique and unusual furniture and décor items that form the central motif for guest suites were imported from the ancient spice island of Zanzibar; carved out of African mahogany, the exotic four-poster king-size beds give the rooms the appearance of a sultan’s private quarters.

It is said that ‘Karoo food is as limitless as the land – vast, diverse, all consuming. And like the land, the cuisine captivates visitors, enticing them back time and again to experience the culinary delights,’ Karoo Cookbook, 2009. Camdeboo Manor allows you a glimpse into this experience, offering delicious homemade pies served with seasonal vegetables, a selection of home-grown steaks and braai facilities at the poolside.

Situated on a quiet tree-lined street, Mossievale is only a short walk away from the heart of historic Graaff-Reinet.

The peaceful garden offers lovely mountain views, barbecue facilities and a sparkling pool. Fully equipped for up to nine people, the cottage is available for both self-catering and B&B guests. All three bedrooms feature ceiling fans and there are two air-conditioners. Recently, a backpacker’s unit was also added to cater for those travellers that need only a bed to sleep in and a bathroom to freshen up. Mossievale is ideal for a refreshing overnight stop or as a relaxing holiday house for a longer stay.

Trackers Inn is a tranquil place with clean air and a beautiful view of the mountains. If you need peace and quiet this is the place to be.

Town is within walking distance and there are restaurants, museums, a game park, a golf course and lots more in and around town. Nieu Bethseda with the Owl House, the beer brewery and other activities are only 50 km from town.

All are welcome from young to old.

There is a double bedroom with a single bed, a bathroom, a lounge with a TV, a microwave, a kettle and a bar fridge. This could be shared with a one or two single bedroom and a shower room. Each room has its own entry. The lounge has tea, coffee, sugar and powder milk and could separate or join the two rooms. The rooms have bedding and towels and there is safe off-street parking.

Somerset Stables: Reinette Te Water Naude, wife of the late Dr Theo Te Water Naude, bought this old stable-like building, circa 1856, in 1997 and restored it to its present form. More buildings were added on to the main dwelling in a U-shape, with a veranda and shutters. A beautiful garden was laid out and is filled with trees, roses, plumbago, lavender, bougainvillea, evening primrose, hibiscus, flowers and herbs. Birds, bees, butterflies and chameleons frequently visit the garden. Enjoy the smell of jasmine while sitting on the veranda.

Somerset Stables is perfectly located in the most popular part of town, away from the hustle and bustle, yet within walking distance of shops, restaurants and schools. The large and comfortable en-suite bedrooms are stylishly decorated and include TVs and Persian carpets. A private entrance to the rooms ensures privacy, where you can enjoy peace, tranquility and comfort, and have time to reflect or meditate.

There is safe under-cover parking for vehicles on the premises with a remote controlled security gate. In the main house you can enjoy a hearty breakfast from the farm-like kitchen. Marion and Robert Rubidge make guests thoroughly welcome at Trymore Cottage, which lies about 1 km from the main homestead. The cottage features a solid country charm of its own and all the space and comfort of an owner-built house to be lived in and enjoyed as a home. Trymore is only let to one party at a time, and its four double bedrooms and two bathrooms make it ideal for a family or group bookings.

Although Trymore Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen well suited for the self-caterer, there is nothing better than a traditional farm dinner. Enjoy Karoo lamb or venison pie which may be ordered when you make your booking. Look forward to lavish farm breakfasts with freshly laid eggs and farm-fresh orange juice, prepared and served in the dining room at Trymore. After dinner is the perfect time to sample that kumquat liqueur on the patio, listening to the crickets and gazing at the unequalled brilliance of the stars.
