Camdeboo Cottages comprises nine self-catering cottages which are all national monuments, situated in the heart of historical Graaff-Reinet. These cottages form a secluded courtyard with covered carports, a swimming pool and a garden.

Bed and breakfast or self-catering accommodation is provided and a variety of evening meals are also available, with dinners being served in the cottages or on the veranda next to the swimming pool. All cottages offer air-conditioning, electric blankets in winter, en-suite bathrooms, televisions with selected DStv, fully equipped kitchens, and coffee and tea-making facilities.

De Kothuize 16 is situated in Graaff-Reinet, the fourth-oldest town in South Africa, with 250 plus declared national monuments. This self-catering Karoo cottage sleeps up to four guests in two air-conditioned bedrooms; the main bedroom has an extra-length king-size bed and the second bedroom has two extra-length single beds.

The cottage comprises a shared bathroom with a shower and a bath, a fully equipped kitchen for great entertainment, and a combined sitting and dining room with a television with full DStv. Features include a substantial paved garden area with an outside table and sitting area and secure under-cover parking.

The cottage boasts excellent classic antique features including yellowwood floors, as well as beamed and planked ceilings. The property is ideally situated for visiting the town’s extensive museums and other facilities, while several good restaurants are within a short walking distance.

The peaceful garden offers lovely mountain views, barbecue facilities and a sparkling pool. Fully equipped for up to nine people, the cottage is available for both self-catering and B&B guests. All three bedrooms feature ceiling fans and there are two air-conditioners. Recently, a backpacker’s unit was also added to cater for those travellers that need only a bed to sleep in and a bathroom to freshen up. Trackers Inn is a tranquil place with clean air and a beautiful view of the mountains. If you need peace and quiet this is the place to be.

Town is within walking distance and there are restaurants, museums, a game park, a golf course and lots more in and around town. Nieu Bethseda with the Owl House, the beer brewery and other activities are only 50 km from town.

All are welcome from young to old.

There is a double bedroom with a single bed, a bathroom, a lounge with a TV, a microwave, a kettle and a bar fridge. This could be shared with a one or two single bedroom and a shower room. Each room has its own entry. The lounge has tea, coffee, sugar and powder milk and could separate or join the two rooms. The rooms have bedding and towels and there is safe off-street parking.

The farm is a wonderful place to stay, ideally situated for an overnight stop between the coast and the inland. This is no place to be in a hurry and the comfort and beauty of Wellwood make it a perfect retreat where you can unwind. Explore and experience the tranquility of this vast landscape, the clarity of the air, the brilliance of the stars, and the unique contentment of Karoo life.

Marion and Robert Rubidge make guests thoroughly welcome at Trymore Cottage, which lies about 1 km from the main homestead. The cottage features a solid country charm of its own and all the space and comfort of an owner-built house to be lived in and enjoyed as a home. Trymore is only let to one party at a time, and its four double bedrooms and two bathrooms make it ideal for a family or group bookings.

Although Trymore Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen well suited for the self-caterer, there is nothing better than a traditional farm dinner. Enjoy Karoo lamb or venison pie which may be ordered when you make your booking. Look forward to lavish farm breakfasts with freshly laid eggs and farm-fresh orange juice, prepared and served in the dining room at Trymore. After dinner is the perfect time to sample that kumquat liqueur on the patio, listening to the crickets and gazing at the unequalled brilliance of the stars.

As you enter this estate in the middle of Graaff-Reinet, the first thing that strikes you is the air of tranquility that pervades the grounds – a secure haven where you can leave your cares behind.

Country Village is a place to unwind, get those kinks out after a long journey, and relax. Mulberry Cottage and Charlton House: Situated on the tranquil Grootplaats Farm just outside of Murraysburg, you will find Charlton House and Mulberry Cottage which are two wonderful self-catering cottages. We are privileged to share the beauty and tranquility that is Grootplaats Farm.

Mulberry Cottage is a private, fully furnished, north-facing unit nestled beside the Buffels River. There are two bedrooms. The first bedroom features twin beds and the other offers twin beds and a bunk bed. The rooms share a full bathroom. A gas geyser supplies hot water. Bath towels are supplied for guests, however they are to bring their own swimming towels.

The kitchen offers a gas stove, a microwave, a fridge, a kettle and a toaster. We have kept the paraffin lamps for those who enjoy the ambiance of low light. The lounge has a fireplace and there is a large patio with a braai area, as well as a fireplace in an old soap pot, perfect for those cold winter nights. Wood is supplied. Meals can be supplied by prior arrangement.

Charlton House is situated next to the main homestead, but it has its own entrance and outside entertainment, as well as a braai area. The house consists of an open-plan kitchen, dining and bar area. It features a fireplace to help warm you up during winter. There are three bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed and a single bed, a small TV, a walk-in cupboard and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. The other two bedrooms share an interleading full bathroom. They consist of twin beds and a double bed respectively.

The lounge has a TV with DStv available. There is also underfloor heating in the lounge. The veranda is north facing and has a braai area on the one end. Wood is supplied. For the warmer summer months the one end of the patio has fine mist sprayers which cool the air.

The pool is at the main homestead and guests are welcome to use it as they would like; some even swim in the river. A beautiful waterfall is just upstream from the cottage and guests can go for walks, cycle with their own bikes and explore the farm.

Die Ark is a fully equipped one-bedroom unit, situated in a quiet and secure area of Graaff-Reinet. The unit is within walking distance of restaurants, shops, museums and other attractions.

The oldest town in the Eastern Cape, the fourth-oldest in South Africa and certainly one of the most atmospheric, Graaff-Reinet lies enclosed by a bend in the Sundays River, overshadowed by the rocky Sneeuberg Mountain within the Camdeboo National Park.

Graaff-Reinet has retained much of the character of a typical nineteenth-century town and is well worth a visit because of it. Although Graaff-Reinet is in the Karoo Heartland with its flat, sandy plains and incredibly hot summers, it is encircled by the Camdeboo Park, which breaks the sandy monotony with its rich greenness and mountains. Within the park are the Nqweba Dam and the Valley of Desolation, providing some of the best examples of the unique-jointed pillars formed by dolerites, which rise to heights of 120 metres in places.

Because of the diverse geography of the area, there is a rich bird and animal life. There is trout fishing, horse riding, Graaff-Reinet’s Bird Club and the national park is stocked with game.
